Removing Kidney Stones
When it comes to removing kidney stones, the size, type and location of the stone will determine the remedy or the treatment to be used. Normally, these remedies will range from simple home remedies to complicated and technical medical treatments. For instance, for minute stones it’s easier to dissolve them using home remedies while for some that are large, critical surgeries and expert’s treatment becomes the only option.
Unlike the past days when surgery was the only way of removing kidney stones, today there are advanced techniques that include; shock waves, tunnel surgery, ureteroscopy and many more. Shock wave is commonly known as ESWL, which stands for Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy. In this method, shock waves in a straight line are thrown to break the stones into smaller pieces which then pass out in form of urine. It’s the best alternative if you’re suffering from conditions such as hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes and breathing abnormalities or if you just cant stand open surgery.
Generally, ESWL is done in two ways i.e Where you sit in a pot of water with one machine or you can stretch out on a table and X-ray images are used to direct the sound waves to the stone. Another way of removing kidney stones is Ureteroscopy. In this method, a wire that has in-built camera is inserted in the urethra where the stone is found and a cage is used for removing kidney stones.
Tunnel surgery is also a common method where a scratch is made by a doctor into the backside of the patient. A slim tunnel through the skin to the stone within the kidney is then made and a special instrument is used to go through the tunnel to the stone to gets rid of it.
